Suicide Attempt

TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Police used a Taser on a man who allegedly attempted to kill himself. Traverse City police officers went to a residence on the 200 block of East Eighth Street at about 3 a.m. Saturday after a man called 911 and said he planned to kill himself. The man told dispatchers he had a knife and no one could stop him from what he intended to do, according to a police statement.

Officers found the man seated in a chair holding a large knife to his chest. The man, 62, allegedly began to push the knife into his chest, so officers used a Taser to incapacitate him. The man was disarmed and taken into protective custody, according to the statement. He was admitted to Munson Medical Center for a psychological evaluation and treatment of a stab wound that was not life-threatening.
